What Happens in the Come Out Roll?
As a beginner in craps, you need to understand that all of this terminology is just terminology! There is no underlying logic behind the terms we use in craps!
The come out roll determines how the round will continue.
- If the come out roll is a 7 or an 11, everyone who bet "with" the shooter wins and all of the others lose.
- If the roll results in a 2, or a 3, the players who bet "against" the shooter win and the others lose.
- If the roll is a 12, the pass bets lose and the don't pass bets are a push.
- Finally, if the roll is any other number, it sets the "point" and the shooter throws the dice again.
Why Does the Shooter Throw the Dice Again?
Simply stated, if there is a "point", the round has not resolved and the shooter needs to throw the dice as many times as it takes to resolve the round. Then another round will begin!
How Does the Shooter Resolve a Round?
The shooter ends a round by either rolling the point again before he or she rolls a seven or rolls a seven before rolling the point.
The shooter, and all other players who bet with the shooter, win if he or she rolls the point first. They all lose if a seven comes up before the point.
