People held it is their hands which made it quite tricky when a businessperson had to hold a cell phone, a briefcase, and an umbrella.
And it cost $4000! That would be about $20,000 in today’s terms! For a phone! And who could you call with the phone? Mostly land lines since very few people owned a cell phone! And the battery lasted a full 30 minutes!
So, was it just a status symbol? In many cases, it was. Someone who had $4000 to throw at a telephone with little usefulness, could do so. But businesspeople did imagine that it would come in handy as a means of communicating with the office, clients, and customers.
All of the terms we associate today will smartphones and cell phones and mobile were not in the vocabulary just 40 years ago!
