So, the even money bets are the safest. They pay 1-1 when they win. All of the other bets pay a little less than one would expect from the fraction the bet represents on the wheel.
Here are examples of the above parameter:
- A bet on a single number should pay 36-1 since there are 36 numbers. It pays 35-1 instead.
- A bet on two numbers should pay 18-1 but pays out 17-1.
- A bet on three numbers should pay 12-1 but pays 11-1.
- A bet on four numbers should pay 9-1 but pays 8-1
- A bet on five numbers pays 6-1.
- A bet on six numbers should pay out 6-1 and pays 5-1 instead.
- A bet on 12 numbers should pay 3-1 but pays 2-1.
Why Do People Like to Play Roulette at Land-based Casinos?

How Does the Martingale System Work?
In the Martingale system, players make an even money bet and then double the bet every time they lose. When they finally win, they return to their original bet.
The second flaw in this system is that even after many losing bets, the inevitable winning bet will win only the player’s original bet!
Here is a Simple Example
The player bets $5 and loses. The next bet is for $10 and the player wins. The player has lost one $5 bet and has won one $10 bet for a net win of $5 which is his or hers original bet.
Here is Why the Martingale System is Flawed
Let’s see what happens after a mere five-spin losing streak:
Bet #1: $5 Bet Loses
Bet #2: $10 Bet Loses
Bet #3: $20 Bet Loses
Bet #4: $40 Bet Loses
Bet #5: $80 Bet Loses
Now the player has to bet $160 in order to win a mere $5. Many players would already be out of bankroll for such a bet and even if the player had the money, they would have stopped betting well before the next bet reached $160!
