- Avoiding walking under a ladder. Actually, you are more likely to be hit in the head if you skirt the edge of the ladder rather than walk underneath it.
- Wish bones have been lucky since at least Roman times. At Thanksgiving, some people are thankful for the chance to make a wish with the wishbone.
- Tossing spilled salt over your shoulder is a really odd superstition. Some people think it comes from a time when salt was a lot more valuable than it is today. The ancients used salt to preserve food and since they didn’t have refrigeration, salting food, especially meat and fish, was a way to have food to eat when hunting was not plentiful. So, why throw spilled salt over your shoulder?
- We say God bless you when someone sneezes.
