Gamers Now Have Two Options
We offer gaming at your desktop computer or with your mobile device through our very high-level Everygame Mobile App. There was a time when gamers had to download the casino to their hard drive. Then Instant Play came along allowing gamers to play directly on their internet feed and then mobile improved to the point that the overwhelming majority of online casino gaming is now done on mobile!
Downloading the casino to your hard drive has become so obsolete that we no longer offer the download option!
One very telling fact about the popularity of the modern Everygame mobile casino is that so many land-based casinos now offer a mobile app for people at the hotel.
What is the Key to Blackjack?
Of course, the first point we must make is that a lot of land-based casinos no longer pay 6-5 for a blackjack. Here at Everygame Casino, we pay 3-2. As you can surely see, by paying only 6-5, these many land-based casinos are taking away a dollar from their players for every blackjack the players get.
The key to playing blackjack is that the player goes first. The goal is to get 21 points or as close as possible without going over 21 points. If the player does go over 21 points, he or she busts automatically. It happens quite often that at a land-based casino, a player will bust and lose automatically, and then as the other players at the table stand with 21 or fewer points, the dealer busts.
Even if the dealer ended up with a higher point total than the player who busted, that player still loses.
If you bust, you lose, no questions asked.
Those Quirky 12 Points
The ten, jack, queen, and king are all worth 10 points in blackjack. That means that if you have 12 points (or more), you could bust on the next card and lose automatically. This leads a lot of players to always stand with 12 points or more.
This is the single biggest mistake new and many experienced blackjack players make.
What Card is Showing for the Dealer?
There are times when it is correct to stand with 12 points (or more) but there are also many times when it is incorrect to do so. When the dealer’s up card is a 17 or higher, the correct play for the player is to hit.
There is a lot of detail past this one point but it leads to a very important conclusion: no decision by the player is “correct” until he or she takes into account the dealer’s up card.
When you hit with 12 points, you will bust a lot of times. If you always stand in that situation, you will lose more!
What Should a Blackjack Player Consider All the Time?
On every hand, the player should first consider surrendering. A lot of casinos don’t offer surrender but for players at a casino that does offer surrender, this should be your first thought. For example, if you have 14, 15, or 16 and the dealer has 7 or better, this is the time to surrender.
Can I and Should I Split
In blackjack, to split doesn’t mean to leave quickly! It is the term we use when we have a pair. The next question you should ask is, “Do I have a pair”? If you do have a pair, then you have to decide if it is wise to split the pair. There are many different pair holdings that affect your decision here. For example, the best strategy tells us to always split 8’s. Otherwise, you have 16 points, the worst possible hand.
In this case, if you didn’t have the pair with 16 points, you would surrender in most cases. But the chance to split makes that the best play.
Another example is that you should never split 10’s. Even if the dealer has a 6 showing, stand with 20 points.
Always split aces.
It is best to play in a game that allows repeated splits. If you split 9’s and then get another 9, some games allow you to split again which you should do.
Should I Double Down?
Here you have at least 9 points, and you have a good chance to double your win if you double down. Again, there are many parameters that you have to learn before you can make the correct doubling decision.
How Can I Know What to Do?
There are blackjack strategy cards available online. We suggest printing one. Then, you will have to spend many hours playing blackjack by yourself in order to learn the chart.
Blackjack strategy involves your point count, the dealer’s up card, the rules of the specific game you are playing, whether your hand is hard or soft, and more. It takes effort to learn the strategy card perfectly.
Now, in the two strategy thoughts we went through above, a player might ask, “why should I consider splitting or doubling down first? The answer is simply that you won’t be able to do either of these potent strategy moves if you have already taken a card.
So, after deciding about surrender, splitting, and doubling down, then you can simply hit or stand.
What Makes Blackjack So Attractive?
First, the game plays fast. Second, gamers are challenged on every hand to combine all of the factors together and arrive at a statistically sound next play.
Third, with correct play, the return to player rate in blackjack is about 99.5%. This is very different than the return to player rate in slots where volatility is also an issue. A few players share the winnings in a high volatility slot.
In blackjack, every hand has an equal chance to be good or less good for gamers. There is no volatility in blackjack. There are trends, however. Card counting was developed to counter the implications of the trends in blackjack. If the deck indicates that a low card is likely, then a gamer can choose the best course of action using that information. Casinos have, for all practical purposes, ended the value of card counting by using many decks and by having permanently shuffling machines.
Online Casinos Pay More in Blackjack
We touched upon this point above but it is worth repeating. While this is not universal, many land-based casinos pay only 6-5 for a blackjack, while Everygame Casino and all good online casinos pay 3-2. Simple arithmetic will show that 6-5 is a full dollar worse for gamers than 3-2! This demonstrates yet another good reason to play blackjack and all casino games online.
