One of Everygame Casino’s newest slots is Oz Golden Trail. This game is based on the massively famous and beloved Wizard of Oz story. The story was “recorded” by L. Frank Baum, who put together the story in parts to tell his children.

What is Oz Golden Trail About?
The slot uses most of the characters and artifacts of the movie from 1939 that has become so famous. Dorothy is there along with Toto, her dog, who serves as the wild symbol. In the story, Toto is a bit mischievous but not wild. It is Toto who pulled back the curtain to reveal the “wizard” manipulating levers to simulate the fire and noise of his enclave.
Baum’s Fantastical Characters
The scarecrow is there, still looking for his brain. The tin man is there with his oil can. The lion is there as well, looking scared as always. The tornado is there, called a cyclone in the book, carrying the house where Dorothy was sleeping, away to the Land of Oz.
When The Moon’s a Balloon
When the wizard was revealed to be a humbug (such an old-fashioned word!), he arranged to take Dorothy back to Kansas in a hot air balloon that “took off” without Dorothy because Toto had jumped out of her hands and she had run after him. Mischievous, not wild! The balloon is there!
Judy Garland Danced in These Slippers
Of course, the slippers are there, as is the famous Yellow Brick Road. We suspect that many gamers of the younger generations recognize the Yellow Brick Road from the song by Elton John. In fact, he got the name from the Wizard of Oz
The Balloon Sends You to the Hold and Spin Feature
The balloon acts as a kind of scatter as three send you to the Hold and Spin feature. Here, you collect balloons. When one hits, it sticks to the screen, and your free spins reset to three. If you get really lucky in this feature, you will win 50,000x your bet!
The Tornado is the Official Scatter Symbol
When you get three tornado symbols, a tornado of sorts sweeps across the reels, and you get 8 free spins. If you get three tornadoes on any of these free spins, you will be awarded three more free spins.
Jackpot Pick
Here is where the tin man comes to life. This feature can trigger randomly during the basic gameplay. Usually, it is triggered when the tin man and two hearts are next to each other.
Then, you are transported to an area of treasure chests. You choose chests, one at a time. There are four jackpots available here. The mini jackpot is good for 15x your bet. The minor jackpot is worth 30x your bet. The major gets you 50x your bet, and the grand jackpot is a progressive jackpot that can grow to very large multipliers.
The Kansas Wheat Fields
We don’t know exactly why, in L. Frank Baum’s original story, Dorothy was growing up in Kansas. The slot is set against a background of Kansas wheat fields. Baum and his family lived for a time in Aberdeen, a town in what is today the State of South Dakota, but then was in the Dakota Territory.
So, Baum knew something about the Great Plains and the storms that are still common there.
Odd Musical Background
In an interesting twist, SpinLogic, our exclusive game provider, uses four musical instruments that taken together are a bit odd for turn of the century Kansas. The piano is there as the piano was known as a Wild West saloon instrument. But then we hear flutes, harps, and a xylophone!
Enchanting? Yes! Melodic? Yes! Delightful? Yes! Odd? Yes, indeed!
In addition to the music, we have Toto barking, the wind howling, and chimes a-chiming when prizes hit.
We think that SpinLogic has truly hit upon a fantastic set of ideas in this new slot, and to “celebrate” we are featuring Oz Golden Trail as our New Slot Promotion.
The Wizard of Oz: Fun Facts
Here are a few amazing and fun facts about the 1939 movie:
- Shirley Temple was then America’s sweetheart, and the studio wanted her to play Dorothy, but her studio would not release her.
- W.C. Fields was still at the height of his comedic powers. He wanted $100,000 to play the wizard, an amazing sum in those days. The studio offered $75,000, and Fields turned it down.
- Buddy Ebsen was the original Tin Man, but he had to leave production because he had a bad allergic reaction to the aluminum in the Tin Man’s makeup.
- The studio changed the slippers from silver to ruby red because the contrast with the yellow brick road was better with red.
- The lion’s makeup took two hours to apply.
- His tail was moved by a stagehand perched above the set.
- His costume was made from real lion pelts and weighed 60 pounds.
- The actors had strong personal relationships with each other off-screen. Judy Garland’s daughter Liza Minelli, married the Tin Man’s son. The Tin Man was the godfather of the lion’s son, John. The scarecrow, Ray Bolger, gave the eulogy at the wicked witch’s, Margaret Hamilton’s, funeral.
- The production costs of 2.8 million dollars making the movie the studio’s most expensive production, at the time.
- Many lines from the movie are quoted in other works and by the general public. Whenever someone gets wet by accident, someone will quip, “I’m melting”. When travelers come across cultural differences, they might say, “We’re not in Kansas anymore”. Families on a country hike might fall into the song, “lions, and tigers, and bears, oh my”.
These are just ten interesting facts about the Wizard of Oz movie.
