Everygame Casino Explains How to Avoid Making Contradictory Bets in Roulette

How to Learn the Bets in Roulette

At a land-based casino, roulette and craps are the games that generate the most noise from players.   These games are very noisy from players whooping and hollering while slots are mostly about the bells and whistles.

At a top casino online such as Everygame Casino, roulette and craps are less popular than they are at land-based casinos for this reason and because so many gamers never learned the many different bets in these games.

But it’s the noise that attracts people to roulette and craps.

The noise is fine as far as it goes but if you don’t understand the bets in these two classic casino games, you will inevitably lose money by making bets that contradict each other.  So, in this article, we will go over the many bets in roulette and we will do the same on the more complex set of bets in craps in an upcoming article.

Graphics for Online Roulette and Craps

We recommend that you take the opportunity to check out the roulette and craps games we offer here at Everygame Casino.  Real Time Gaming, our game provider, has worked very hard over the years to bring you the best graphics and animation for these games.  We feel that many gamers who stopped playing online roulette and craps a few years ago have never seen the great new graphics RTG has developed for the games.

So check out the ”new” roulette and craps games at Everygame Casino and now here is a short tutorial on the bets in roulette.

The House Edge in European Roulette is Similar to Slots

The house edge in American Roulette is 5.26% and it is half that in European Roulette.  That’s because the European version has only one 0 and not 00!  We offer European Roulette so you can lower the house edge by playing that version.

At the 2.6% house edge, European Roulette is comparable to most slots games.  So, why are slots so much more popular than roulette?  Again, we need to learn the many bets to get a better handle on the game.

We provided an image of a European Roulette table so you can refer to it and understand what we are talking about.

Columns and Rows

The table is horizontal in shape.  The long rows have 12 numbers each.  The twelve columns have 3 numbers each.  When you bet on combinations of numbers from the rectangle, the bets are called inside bets.

Now look outside of the menagerie of numbers.  You see several other bets.  Since these bets are made outside of the collection of numbers, they are called outside bets.

The most common outside bets are the even money bets.  These are odds or evens, black or red, 1-18 or 19-36.

Then you can bet on 1st third, 2nd third, or 3rd third.

Finally, at the other side of the rows are the bets on those three rows.  These are very different than the first third, second third, or third third bets as a quick look at the table reveals.

Inside Bets

  1. You can bet on a column by placing the chip at the base of the column on the line.  If the bet is off the line it will be a different kind of bet.
  2. You can bet on two columns by placing the chip on both the bottom line and on the line that separates the two columns.
  3. You can bet on four numbers by putting the chip on the point that connects the numbers to each other.
  4. As an example, if you want to bet on the 2, 3, 8, and 9 on a single bet, you can’t do it!
  5. You can bet on adjoining pairs by putting the chip on the line that separates the numbers.
  6. You can bet on a single number by putting the chip in the box with that number.

Beware of Contradictory Bets

You wouldn’t want to bet on a third of the numbers and then contradict that bet by betting on a pair that is outside that third.  This is just one of many ways that roulette players lose money making a lot of bets and having a losing vet cancel out a winning bet.

In our view, the best way to bet in roulette is to decide on a single bet and to play only that bet on a single spin.  There is no system by which you can “guarantee” a winning bet over time.  Each spin is entirely independent of all previous spins.  This is true at land-based casinos where some gamblers claim that they can spot a warped roulette wheel and can win every time “playing the warp”!

We believe that the warped wheel talk is similar to the fisherman’s tall tales about the one that got away!

Every spin of the roulette wheel is even more independent of all other spins at Everygame Casino Red and all online casinos.  That’s because we use a random number generator or RNG to determine the outcome of every spin.  The RNG has no memory.  It cannot do anything other than stop when it decides to stop on this spin!

Run for the Hills to Get away from Betting Systems

The most famous such system is called the Martingale System.  It says to bet on the even money bets and to double the bet after every loss.  By doing this, you can win some money if the spins follow average results.  For instance if you bet $5 on black and red shows up and then you bet on black again and double your bet to $10 and black does show up, you will win a total of $5.

The flaw in the system is that there are winning streaks and losing streaks and the RNG has no way of avoiding them.  So what happens if you lose five even money bets in a row?

Your bets were:

  1. $5
  2. $10
  3. $20
  4. $40
  5. $80

Now you have to bet $160 in order to win $5.  A lot of players would prefer not to make that bet!
