Snow White is one of the most popular fairy tales from the Brothers Grimm’s famous collection. It was originally published as the 53rd tale in their 1812 book Grimm’s Fairy Tales. The story remained pretty much unchanged in Walt Disney’s 1937 movies, perhaps the best-known version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
Initially, Disney had estimated the movie’s budget to be somewhere around $250,000 - already a fairly sizable one by the old standards. But his decision to make it into a full-length cel animated feature film - the first ever - shot the budget through the roof. In the end, the $250,000 turned into $1,49 million (around $13.25 as of 2022). Disney’s ambitions paid off: Snow White was an immediate success and played an instrumental role in making the Walt Disney Studios into the juggernaut it is. As a fun fact, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs still holds the Guinness record for highest-grossing animation at the domestic box office: $184,925,486, equivalent to $1,546,602,945 when adjusted.
