Surprisingly, Smith did not win the tournament, as he finished third at 14-under.
Hitting the holes with less than 20 putts is a tall order. And tall is also the word most people would use to describe basketball players. Did you know that Gheorghe Muresan and the late Manute Bol are joint record holders as the tallest players in NBA history, at 7’7”? And funnily enough, Bol was also teammates with Muggsy Bogues, who, at 5’3”, is the shortest player in NBA history!
In baseball, impressive numbers are usually put up by pitchers. On September 24, 2010, Aroldis Chapman wrote his name in baseball history. The then Cincinnati Reds’ relief pitcher managed to throw a 105.8 mph fastball, setting a new record for the fastest pitch in the history of the sport!
Pucks can also hit some insane speeds, at over 100 mph. And stopping them is the goalie’s job. Few have done it better in NHL history than Jacques Plante. The legendary Hall of Famer goalie won the Stanley Cup five consecutive times with the Montreal Canadiens. Champions have their names engraved in the Stanley Cup - but a few mistakes have happened over the years. Plante’s name is engraved with five different spellings in the Cup! Other famous mistakes include the “Bqstqn” Bruins and the Toronto Maple “Leaes”.
Lord Stanley’s trophy weighs 34.5 pounds, but it’s not the heaviest trophy in sports. That honor belongs to the Indy 500’s Borg-Warner Trophy weighs an impressive 110 pounds!
