Everygame knows the ancient secrets to endless bonuses… And to close out our promo, we will delve into the secrets of voodoo. Once again, we have an exclusive blog bonus waiting for you at the exit of our House of Horror.
Do You Believe in Ancient Voodoo Magic?
What we commonly refer to as Voodoo is actually the Haitian Voodoo (or Vodou) religion. Haitian Voodoo is a mix of West African Vodun, an ancient religion dating back to 6,000 years ago, and Christianism. It believes in the existence of a supreme God, Bondye, who created the universe. However, Bondye cannot be contacted directly. Instead, priests and priestesses must instead speak to emissaries, spirits called loa (or lwa).
There are thousands of loa, which are often compared to angels. Communicating with the loa requires a ritual, during which the priest or priestess is possessed by the entity. Loa require some kind of offering, usually an animal sacrifice. They are also easy to anger, and if a loa dislikes an offer, loa can also bring misfortune upon those who summoned them.
Now whenever we think about Voodoo, the most common item associated with it is the infamous Voodoo doll. As curious as it might sound, Voodoo dolls have very little to do with Voodoo practices. In Voodoo, dolls are used as a tool to help with channelling the loa. Contrary to popular belief, Voodoo dolls aren’t used to curse individuals or anything along those lines.
What not many people know, however, is that Voodoo has directly influenced a very popular theme in modern horror: zombies. In Voodoo, a zombie is a reanimated corpse, brought back to life by a bokor (male necromancer) or by a capatla (female necromancer). The zombie has no will of its own and remains under the control of the necromancer.
