On December 9, 2021, a group of researchers off the coast of Faial Islands in the Azores found a dead giant sunfish (Mola Alexandrini). After transporting the carcass back to land, the group managed to weigh the sunfish with the help of a forklift. The sunfish weighed in at over 6,000 lbs, making it the largest bony fish ever found!
